Corporate fundraising is an opportunity for companies, organisations and their
employees to work with Orchid and help to raise funds as well as promote awareness
about prostate and testicular cancer.
For companies and brands working in partnership with Orchid can be mutually
beneficial. A charity partnership that has a positive impact can help to improve
employee morale and retention and enhance company profile.
Men deserve the best chance they can get to fight cancer. Early detection and
diagnosis is vital to saving and improving quality of life for those men, both
young and old, that have or may be diagnosed with prostate or testicular cancer.
In choosing to support Orchid you give your stakeholders an opportunity to make
a contribution to our work and for some the chance to directly benefit from
awareness of male specific cancers and their symptoms.
Our corporate relationship team is experienced in working with the corporate
sector and would be happy to discuss opportunities that will help companies
of any size to demonstrate good corporate social responsibility.

Austin Reed has chosen Orchid as its charity partner for 2006/7 and made a
commitment to help promote awareness of prostate and testicular cancer as well
as raise vital funds through sales promotions, employee fundraising, gift donations
and in-store activity.
Each employee has received their own ‘working in partnership’ booklet which
gives essential information about Orchid and male specific cancers, guidance
on fundraising and a call for support from Nick Hollingworth, Chief Executive,
Austin Reed Group.
‘Help us to demonstrate our support for Orchid to customers, suppliers, families
and friends and try to get them involved.’ Nick Hollingworth
Austin Reed was delighted to be part of Men in Pants 2006 and supported the
event by promoting it through their City stores as well sponsoring the boxer
shorts worn by participants.
Austin Reed’s programme of group-wide sales campaigns got underway in June
with a sock promotion to coincide with Father’s Day and will be followed by
a shirt promotion in the autumn.
The Italian cotton shirt, modelled by dedicated Orchid supporter Pat Cash,
will be available in Austin Reed stores across the UK from September and Orchid
will receive a donation of £5 for every shirt sold.
Orchid collection boxes and wristbands are on display in Austin Reed stores
group-wide at various times throughout the year.
Paperchase wanted a male cancer charity to be beneficiary of its first range
of Father’s Day charity cards launched in 2006. Orchid was the perfect choice
as the first registered charity dedicated to raising funds to combat male specific
cancers. A range of cards made up of six different retro designs went on sale
in April in Paperchase stores nationwide and in concession at Borders and House
of Fraser.

Cambridge Building Society has supported Orchid by displaying our ‘know your
balls …check em out’ wristbands in their branches. The wristbands have been
produced by Orchid to draw attention to testicular cancer and the importance
of regular self-checking. If caught early 99% of those diagnosed with testicular
cancer can be cured.

WOMAC (women on the move against cancer) support a different cancer project
each year and this year raised £20,000 for Orchid. The main fundraising event
was a St Valentine’s party held at the London Aquarium where guests from the
motor industry and media were entertained by Rory Bremner’s multi character
auction.
Funds were also raised through foreign currency collections, a sponsored walk,
raffles and cake sales as well as the press launch of the Peugeot 107.

The Metropolitan Police Service completed a nine-month campaign ensuring
the health of all their staff in June 2006. Chief Medical Officer, Dr Eileen
Cahill-Canning said, “The demand for health screens has been amazing, and
we are discovering a significant number of hidden risk factors.” Visiting
each police borough command, the dedicated healthcare team provided a personal
health check and dependant on age and gender, the final part of the health
check was personalised. Men under 40 received instruction on testicular self-examination,
whilst those over 40 received advice on spotting the symptoms of prostate
cancer. Orchid Cancer provided leaflets on Testicular and Prostate Cancer
to inform the male members of the Service. Commissionaire Sir Ian Blair said,
“The Met is the largest employer in London. It is another example of how the
Met is becoming an employer of choice”.

The employee fundraising activity at this international law firm raised £15,000
for Orchid through a programme of events which included a music evening, a boat
party on the Thames, a ‘school disco’ themed social evening and a Christmas
carol concert.
